Isaiah 61:1 & Luke 4:18
‘The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me,
for the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.’
As we move onward, to the next part of our journey, in Isaiah 61 we find a prophecy about a Saviour who would defeat all that keeps us bound. A prophecy that 700 years later in Luke 4:18 Jesus Himself would read aloud and confirm that He was the One who had come to fulfil it.
The first thing the prophecy tells us, is that Jesus was going to bring good news to the poor. The news that would bring hope, restoration and healing to all mankind.
We now move forward in time to a part of the Bible which we are calling ‘The Promise’. After all the sadness that had happened in the Garden, God wanted his children to know that He was going to do something about it.
These words were written 700 years before Jesus would come, but they tell us what He would do, and how He would help us.
