John 20:17-18
‘Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.’
‘To my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ The love and generosity of Jesus, to allow us to approach our Creator on the same level as He does. It’s unimaginable. And, as a woman was approached in the garden at the beginning of time, and left with her reputation in ruins, a woman is now being approached again, in another garden, but this time entrusted with the task of reporting the resurrection of the Saviour of the world. The message of restoration, of hope, beauty from ashes.
Jesus asks Mary to go and tell everyone else that Jesus is alive. He trusts her with this important message, showing us that even though Eve made a mistake by sharing the message of the serpent with Adam, Mary can give us a fresh start by passing on the message of hope and new life.
