Matthew 26:14-16
‘Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.’
In order for Jesus to carry out His purpose, He needed someone to betray Him. To ensure that He would die a criminal’s death, He would have to be arrested.
Betrayal and humiliation. Two of the terrible things that came into the world when the knowledge of evil found its way into human hearts. Because of Judas, Jesus was going to take them both.
So that Jesus could die for our sins, and take all the bad things that had come into the world, He needed someone to betray Him, or hand Him over to those in charge.
This was going to be Judas. Because of Judas, Jesus would be arrested and made to die as a criminal. But we know that isn’t the end of the story.
