Isaiah 61:3
‘To all who mourn in Israel
he will give a crown of beauty for ashes’
The Hebrew word for Israel here is Zion, which means ‘kingdom of heaven.’ For all who mourn, He will not only remove the ashes, but He will replace them with a crown of beauty. A crown, not for Himself, but for His children.
A crown – Wow! Ashes symbolise sadness and loss. God is promising that He will replace the sadness and loss with beauty instead.
