‘Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”’
Jesus didn’t just eradicate the shame. He replaced it with honour. He doesn’t just remove our shame. He has so much more that comes in its place.
As was promised in Isaiah 61:7 ‘Instead of shame and dishonor, you will enjoy a double share of honor.’ Jesus was already showing us His ability to achieve what God had promised. Not only did He give them wine, He gave them the best.
Jesus didn’t just rescue this family from shame, He gave them honour. Remember the promise we read a few days ago? God told us that instead of the shame that came into the world, we would feel honour instead.
We learned that honour means to be given admiration and respect, and it also means to tell others how wonderful someone is. This is what Jesus did for this family. He didn’t just give them wine, He gave them the best.
