John 1:1-5

‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.’

Jesus. The Word, the message of God, was with His Father from the beginning. Before anything was made, before the first human took a breath, Jesus was waiting.

He was light. A light that the darkness would never be able to overpower. It’s important we remember this, as we learn what happens next…

When we read these verses, ‘the Word’ means Jesus. We can know that Jesus was always with God from the beginning, and that He was there when everything was made.

We read that Jesus brings light, a light that can’t be taken away however dark the world would become.
